Iron Fitting

A single mis-fit iron doesn't just cost you distance on that club — it can quietly compress two rungs of the ladder into one and open a hole on the other side.

What We Capture

Lie, Length, and Loft Gapping Together

We measure dynamic lie angle at impact — not the static number stamped at the factory — along with carry distance for every iron in the set. Off lie angle shows up as a left-or-right miss that has nothing to do with swing path; off gapping shows up as two clubs that quietly fly the same distance.

Shaft flex and weight get checked club to club too, since a set built with mismatched shafts often produces inconsistent trajectory even when every other spec looks correct on paper.

What Actually Changes

Lie Angle

A lie angle that's a few degrees off can push shots consistently left or right without any change in swing mechanics — and it's checked club by club, since it can drift across a set.

Length

Standard length isn't automatically correct length. A quarter-inch change alters both lie angle at impact and swing weight, which affects tempo more than most golfers expect.

Shaft Flex & Weight

Consistent shaft weight across the set helps produce even trajectory rung to rung; mixed weights from an assembled-over-time set are a common source of erratic gapping.

Set Composition

Where the set starts and stops — 4-iron or 5-iron, gap wedge included or not — shapes the whole ladder more than any single spec change inside it.

Grip Size

Checked across the full set, not just the driver, since undersized grips are common on older iron sets and quietly affect face control at impact.

Loft Gapping

We measure loft spacing between consecutive irons directly rather than trusting the stamped numbers, since bent or worn heads can drift from spec over time.

A Common Finding

Where Iron Sets Usually Bunch Up

Short irons tend to bunch up in carry distance more than long irons do, since loft gaps at the bottom of a set are often tighter by design. When two short irons land within five yards of each other, we look at re-lofting one, adjusting length, or reconsidering where the set should hand off to your wedges.

Check Your Set's Real Gapping

Iron fittings run 60–90 minutes and produce a full carry-distance chart for every club in the set.
