Full-Swing and Partial-Swing Numbers Both
Wedges get measured on full swings for carry distance, then again on the three-quarter and half-swing shots most golfers actually use inside 100 yards. A wedge set that gaps cleanly on full swings can still overlap badly on the shots played most often.
Bounce and turf interaction get checked too — the right loft on the wrong bounce and grind still produces chunked or bladed shots from certain lies, no matter how clean the yardage gapping looks on paper.

Bounce Angle
Higher bounce resists digging in softer turf and sand; lower bounce suits firmer conditions and players who prefer to hit slightly down and through the ball.
Sole Grind
Grind shapes how the sole interacts with the turf on open-face shots. The right grind can rescue a wedge that otherwise feels great but performs inconsistently around the green.
Loft Spacing
Four- to six-degree gaps between wedges are typical, but the right spacing depends on how far your pitching wedge already carries and where your set hands off.
